For the third installment of the Craft Cinema series, the Center for Craft will host a free screening of the 2019 comedic thriller "Uncut Gems," directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, courtesy of A24 Films. The adrenaline-fueled film follows anti-hero Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler), a larger-than-life jeweler and gambler in New York City's Diamond District, who makes a high stake bet using a rare gem as collateral.
The film will be introduced and contextualized by writer, curator, and Gallery Manager at the Center for Craft, Sarah Darro. Darro will connect the film to her research on contemporary jewelry and diamond districts in the United States, particularly in Philadelphia, which she wrote about in the article, "Metalsmithing in the Craft Capital," in Metalsmith Magazine, Volume 40, Number 1, 2020.
Complimentary beverages are generously provided by Bhramari Brewing Co.
This film is rated R and explores adult themes.
