Namita Gupta Wiggers, director of Warren Wilson College's MA in Critical Craft Studies program and curator of ROLODEX. Craft a Conversation, and Sarah Darro, Gallery Manager at the Center for Craft, will lead a virtual walkthrough of ROLODEX on Zoom that will be followed by a casual social meetup on Kumospace.
ROLODEX. Craft a Conversation is an exhibition that draws from a growing index of self-identified Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) working in craft today. Initiated by Warren Wilson College's MA in Critical Craft Studies in April 2021, this project is centered on people, their descriptions of themselves, and their connections to craft - rather than on the objects they create. A rapid response to rising violence against AAPI communities in the US, this exhibition is a directory and a tool:
Two hundred people responded to the initial call and ROLODEX will continue to gather listings until August 31, 2021. AAPI communities are invited to continue to build this index. Access, use, and add to the directory - which remains online indefinitely - at this link.
The project is on view at the Center for Craft from June 4th to August 20th, 2021.
