Common
Barium carbonate is a white, odorless, crystalline, inorganic compound made up of barium, carbon, and oxygen. It is mined as barite in Bulgaria and China, shipped to Germany to be refined, and then shipped to ceramic suppliers across the world.
Regional Material
Highly refined barium carbonate is used in ceramic and pottery glazes to reduce glaze melting temperatures, prevent crystallization, and create a smooth, uniform surface.
