Development & Marketing Coordinator

The Development & Marketing Coordinator is the on-site project coordinator to support fundraising and communications efforts that advance the organization’s mission, vision, and progress. The position is responsible for the timely and effective tracking and implementation of Center for Craft’s development and marketing activities, as well as assisting with content management across various media and channels.

This key position is integral to the organization’s brand development and will support the Development & Marketing team to keep projects flowing on time and within budget. Ideal candidates will be highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong writing and copyediting skills.

Compensation: This position is full-time and exempt, working mainly on-site Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings/weekends. The position reports to the Director of Development & Marketing.

The starting salary is $50,000 per year with full benefits to include Medical/Dental, Life Insurance, Long-Term and Short-Term Disability, and 401K, as well as three weeks paid leave and recognized federal holidays.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Coordination (35%)

  • Develop and implement project templates to track the full life cycles of fundraising and communication campaigns.
  • Create and distribute Communication Briefs for internal content development and assist with copyediting and fact-checking of first drafts.
  • Maintain annual fundraising and editorial communication calendars.
  • Facilitate in-house approvals of strategies, copy, and creative assets.
  • Track and report key data to measure the success of communication strategies and recommend improvements.
  • Work with contract content vendors (designers, photographers, etc.) to share and manage assets, feedback, and timely completion of projects and paperwork.

Content Creation and Collaboration (35%)

  • Work closely with other team members to understand cross-organization goals and synthesize information into clear and accessible messaging.
  • Plan and draft a monthly email newsletter to a growing national audience of 13,000+ subscribers, maintaining a 30% average open rate.
  • Plan, draft, and post content on social media accounts (approximately 10–15 posts per week across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn), and engage with comments and questions.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of press releases.
  • Oversee annual local advertising budgets and coordinate placements and listings.
  • Design simple program graphics for use in email newsletters, social media, and website, following brand style guidelines.
  • Copyedit materials as needed.
  • Edit and upload audio files and videos to Vimeo and SoundCloud.
  • Maintain photo, social media, event, and press archives.
  • Maintain copyright integrity and credit artwork where necessary.

External Relations (20%)

  • Assist with event planning and work at on-site events several times per year; some evenings and weekends required.
  • Hire photographers for events and other purposes.
  • Create press kits and respond to media and photo requests.
  • Maintain media and press lists.

Additional Roles & Responsibilities (10%)

  • Serve as lead on regular website updates.
  • Assist with brand management, ensuring consistent usage across media.
  • Manage organizational print assets, including evergreen rack cards, Communications Toolkit materials, business cards, and letterhead.
  • Assist with organizational paperwork as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this position will have a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, or other related fields (or equivalent relevant work experience) and a minimum of two years of prior experience in communications, fundraising, or public relations-related roles. Knowledge of and an interest in contemporary craft is preferred.

Strong candidates will be:

  • Excellent verbal and written communicators with a passion for storytelling that communicates impact.
  • Asheville- or Western North Carolina-based for on-site work, or willing to relocate.
  • Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and copyediting skills.
  • Able to keep multiple projects on track simultaneously with a high level of independence in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible, creative, adaptable, and collaborative.
  • Proactive at solving problems.
  • Willing to learn and ask clarifying questions.

Technology & Design: This position requires strong technology proficiency and basic design skills. Candidates should be comfortable in a Mac environment and should have knowledge in:

  • Google Drive.
  • Mailchimp or other email newsletter services; familiarity with segmentation, contact list management, and A/B testing a plus.
  • Social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram (Reels, Carousels, Stories), Linktree, LinkedIn, Vimeo, and SoundCloud.
  • Post-scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite or Buffer.
  • Eventbrite or other ticketing platforms.
  • Zoom.
  • Basic graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva) and photo editing skills required; video editing preferred.
  • Some web design and/or HTML experience a plus, especially familiarity with Webflow and Google Analytics.
