We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Center for Craft’s new Materials Collection on Thursday, September 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm ET. This radically accessible installation features over 100 common and novel materials used in craft, highlighting the enduring legacy of craftspeople as innovators and offering new and sustainable material possibilities.
Join us for an evening with the collection to explore materials from the Appalachian Mountains, such as rivercane and wild clays, and discover materials at the cutting edge of craft, including alternatives to plastics, biodegradable foams, and algae ink.
We are grateful to the many artists and suppliers who generously contributed materials to the collection. The evening will include light refreshments and remarks from the Center for Craft staff. This event is free and open to the public. To register click the link in our bio.
The Materials Collection is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and supported, in part, by the Center for Native Health.
