Tussah Silk

Common

Tussah silk is wild caught, cultivated from the tussah silk caterpillar. When a caterpillar is wild caught, the fiber is broken when the moth eats its way out of the cocoon.

Regional Material

Uses in Craft

Tussah silk is easy to spin, which results in yarns that are very soft and great for comfort and performance. Garments made from tussah silk have the main functions of regulating body temperature, wicking moisture, and ensuring a good fit.
