"Results from a #MendingMonday online workshop" This mending sampler on a pair of jeans is a result of an online (free) workshop I began since COVID-19. I provide free lessons and help folks learn some basic and not-so- basic approaches to mending. It is an example of something that might be incorporated into the Center for Craft project that I am proposing.

I propose an outreach program for discussing and teaching repair aimed at isolated seniors. The project would gather stories of repair and create a social and creative outlet. It would be part of the Radical Repair Workshop, and would include collection of oral histories and an exchange of repaired items and skills between myself and participants. It is an opportunity to share experiences, information, and consider repair as a form of bonding and healing that transcends age and material.
Selected works
“Radical Repair Workshop: Exterior” This is the camper that houses the Radical Repair Workshop set up at an event at Duke University. The camper houses a studio, gallery, and teaching space. On this day, there were stations st up and I taught people to darn and patch fabric. (January 2020)
“Radical Repair Workshop: interior gallery view” This is one view inside the Radical Repair Workshop camper and shows the small gallery space, used to curate shows based on themes of repair. You can also see the yellow handouts, which are small zines free to the public that teach mending techniques. The camper also houses a studio space and teaching space. While the Center for Craft project would not happen in this space, the concept comes from this project and it would become part of the Radical Repair Workshop--- during the pandemic, it's challenging to maintain a public art project such as the Radical Repair Workshop!
