Bio of the Artist

Organization Background

Diana Hoover (b. 1982, Fort Knox, KY) is a full-time ceramic artist working under the studio name Knook Ceramics. She holds a BA in Psychology and English from the University of Kansas (2005) and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University (2011). Hoover began working in ceramics in 2014. In 2024, she completed The Independent Study and Mentoring Program, a 3-year advanced studies program in ceramics, at The Village Potters in Asheville, NC. Hoover has participated in group exhibitions and juried craft shows; most recently, she was featured as an Emerging Artist at the American Craft Council’s American Craft Made Baltimore (February 2025). In her studio practice, Hoover enjoys experimenting with form and color, and she makes functional and sculptural ceramic objects that fit well as a cohesive collection but can also stand alone. Using the technique of hard-edge painting, she paints bold lines and patterns on each form. She appreciates how lines and patterns naturally distort when applied to the surface of a 3-dimensional and curved form, making each piece unique. Hoover is based in Asheville, NC, where she lives with her husband and son.
