Windgate-Lamar Fellowship
2019
Statement: My work is about bringing childhood mystery back to life using the accessibility of textile craft, as it relates to human bodies and sensory experience. Textile making presents a mystery and magic of its own: the transforming of elemental materials into pattern and texture, from idea into physical form. Fellowship Plans: For the past five years I’ve been working with Lakota youth on the Cheyenne River Reservation in La Plant, South Dakota. The focus of my work will be implementing programming and engaging with others, while developing and teaching classes both on my own and with indigenous artists from the community. I plan to provide the opportunity and resources to bridge the transition between educational and professional practice.
