Bio of the Artist

Organization Background

Brooke Priddy Conrad is an artist and designer using cloth and clothing to document and archive the crossing of life's major thresholds. For over a decade she used her formal training in art to build a successful business creating wedding gowns from family heirlooms. This work deepened her connection to the power of cloth and ceremony.

Her practice changed irrevocably when she gave birth to her son and lost her husband to pancreatic cancer within a year’s time. Giving birth so near to experiencing death revealed their similarities and deepened her understanding of the value of ceremony in universal human experiences. It is this balance and tension that she has explored in her art ever since. Creating ceremony around life-altering events allows us to emotionally integrate the inescapable reality of change. Her work is meant to be held in honor by the wearer and witnessed in community. From the welcoming of new life, to the wisdom of menopause and the closure of death, each garment is meant to be a source of comfort and strength, cherished and passed down, fostering continuity and belonging. This work is a prayer for the sacred transitions of life.
